What Qualifies You for Disability?

Posted on June 12, 2017July 6, 2019

Qualifying for disability can be a very stressful process as it requires you to attend a variety of appointments with your doctor while collecting all doctors notes and recommendations. Once you have acquired all of the correct paperwork, you can then hand it into any disability lawyers Oklahoma where they will review it to see if you can qualify. Some qualifying factors to winning a disability case are mental health conditions, respiratory illnesses, and physical injuries that have caused you to be unable to work or carry on with your daily activities including work and household chores.

Mental Health

Mental health illnesses have many qualifying factors including how severe it is, when you were diagnosed, and whether or not your counselor feels that you could benefit from social security. Some illnesses that fall under the qualifying category are anxiety, schizophrenia, PTSD, and severe depression. If you have been diagnosed with any of these mental health illnesses and they cause you to be unable to carry on with your day to day life, it may be time to contact an attorney for a helping hand.

Respiratory Illnesses

If you have a respiratory illness such as asthma, emphysema, or restrictive lung disease there is a good chance you can qualify for a disability check every month. Before seeking out help from an attorney, you will want to have all test results, doctors notes, and recommendations to bring into an attorneys office. Once they agree that your illness is cause for alarm and state assistance, they can help walk you through the process of submitting paperwork to the courts and what you need to say and do while standing in front of a judge.

Physical Injuries

If you were in a car accident or a workplace accident that caused you to sustain serious injuries that left you unable to work, you may qualify for social security. When you apply for disability on a personal injury status, they may require you to seek help from specialists and physical therapists before they deem you disabled and unable to work. Once they see that no progress is being made after treatment, they can better decide on whether or not you are able or unable to work a regular job. If you are not, the judge will review your case again in hopes to approve your claim.

If you have come to the realization that you cannot work due to a respiratory illness, physical injury, or mental illness, it is time to contact an attorney to help you apply for disability benefits. An attorney will be able to review your doctor’s notes and health history to see if you can qualify for the benefits you are seeking out. If they feel that you have a chance of winning your case, they can help you submit the paperwork and present it in front of a judge who will decide if your illness or injury is serious enough for you to collect a social security check every month.
